The British National Curriculum (BNC) is the English National Curriculum - one of the most recognised and respected education systems in the world. It is international in content, developing critical thinking, independence and problem-solving skills. At HISG, we implement the BNC from Grade 6 onwards, so students enter high school perfectly prepared - no adaptations, no leaping into the unknown.

CURRICULUM

What is the British National Curriculum?

A global perspective

Content and examples from around the world, adapted
to the student growing up
in a multicultural environment.

Learning through inquiry

BNC shapes analytical thinking - instead of memorising, the student understands
and is able to apply knowledge.

Continuity of the programme from Grade 1 through to A-Level - no gaps, no surprises.

Each stage deliberately prepares for the next. The pupil knows where they are going and how to get there.

Consistency from the ground up

is the big advantage of A-levels?

In the A-Level system, the student chooses min. 3 (sometimes 4) subjects and explores them at a level similar to the first year of university. University recruiters around the world value this depth of specialisation. Fewer subjects means more time for each subject, less stress and better results - and it is the results, not the number of exams passed, that determine admission to the university of your dreams.

Why min. 3 subjects

Pearson Edexcel International A-Level is the world's only modular system - available in the Tri-City exclusively at HISG. Three sessions a year means three opportunities - and three opportunities to improve. The key advantage: if your June exam result is not up to scratch, you can spend the whole summer holidays preparing and take the exam as early as October - no waiting until January, no wasting a year.

MODULAR SYSTEM

Modular system and 3 exam sessions

Study in stages. Pass your exams as you go along.
Build your score step by step.

Less stress

Instead of "all or nothing" at the finish - an even rhythm of work and exams throughout the year.

Resit without waiting

June exam? You can revise as early as October - no need to wait until January.

Teachers see module results in real time and adapt teaching to each student's needs.

Exam fees are spread
over two years,
rather than accumulating
in one exam season.

What does it mean
"modular system?"

In the traditional linear system, the student learns the material over 2 years and takes all the exams at the end - in one intensive period.

In the modular system, learning is divided into smaller units (modules). After each of these, the student takes an exam only in a particular area, so that:

  • the material is better spread over time
  • it is easier to focus on specific topics
  • you can improve your performance in selected modules

At the end, the results from all modules make up the final A-Level grade - the certificate is exactly the same as in the linear system.

Foundation from PYP

The inquisitiveness and learning skills gained from PYP turn into a real academic advantage in high school.

Preparation from the BNC

Grades 6-8 at the BNC build subject knowledge and become accustomed to an English-speaking academic environment.

A confident start at A-Level

HISG students enter high school knowing the language, thinking style and demands of the system. Others are just beginning to adapt.

At HISG, learning in English does not mean giving up the Polish language.

An international school that cares about the Polish language

The programme is designed to meet the needs of two groups of students:

Polish-speaking students

→ they develop language, literature and cultural identity

International students

→ learn the language in a practical way that facilitates daily life and integration

Two goals, one coherent learning environment.

There is its own psychological-educational counselling centre at HISG - as a permanent part of the school, not an external service.

Psychological and pedagogical support

- unique in the Tricity

We provide:

  • psychological support in English and Polish
  • support in learning and organisation of work
  • support in adaptation to the international environment
  • help in difficult educational moments
  • close cooperation with teachers

Frequently asked questions

Can students from outside ISG attend HISG High School?

Yes. The high school is open to students from other schools who have completed grade 8. ISG students have priority and a guaranteed place. The remaining places are allocated through an admissions process involving an interview and verification of English level.

How does A-Level differ from the Polish Baccalaureate?

The Polish Baccalaureate is required for most Polish public universities. A-Level is the international equivalent of the Matura, recognised by universities in more than 115 countries - including the UK, USA, Germany, the Netherlands and Scandinavia. It is possible to have both at the same time. We are happy to help you plan both pathways in parallel.

How many subjects do I need to pass to study abroad?

Only 3 A-Level subjects are required to apply to universities in the UK, USA, Europe and Asia - and this is a fully accepted entry standard. In comparison, the IB Diploma programme requires 6 subjects, an extended written assignment (EE), a TOK module and a CAS activity. A-Level allows you to focus more deeply on your chosen subjects and get better results in what really counts in recruitment.

Why is the October session such an advantage?
In linear systems such as the IB, revising the May exam is not possible until next year at the earliest - or at all. At HISG, a failed exam from the June session can be corrected as early as October. The entire summer holidays become productive preparation time, rather than months of waiting. It's a system that gives students a real second chance - without a year's delay.
Is the study done entirely in English?
A-Level exam subjects are delivered in English. Polish is actively present in the high school curriculum - not as an exam subject, but as an important part of education. Communication with parents is carried out in both Polish and English.
When and how is recruitment for the 2026/27 school year taking place?
Recruitment is already open. ISG Grade 8 students apply directly to the school and are guaranteed a place. Applicants from outside ISG undergo an interview. Due to the intimate nature of the first yearbook, the number of places is limited - we encourage you to contact us as early as possible.

Make an appointment - we will answer all your questions
and guide you through the whole recruitment process.
